Linguists contacted for this story claim that public records and a chain of weight-loss spas named Slenderella International's 1961 advertising campaign are where the phrase "bikini body" originally gained popularity. In the summer of 1961, a Slenderella advertisement that appeared in publications including the New York Times and the Washington Post stated, "Summer's wonderful enjoyment is for people who look youthful." A Bikini figure has a highly firm breast, a hand-span waist, trim, firm hips, and slim, elegant legs.

Despite this commercial messaging, it took a few more decades before the phrase "bikini body" became widely used. When it reappeared in the late 1980s, it was no longer restricted to marketing materials and had entered common speech. In the classified section of the New York Times in 1988, a self-described "handsome adventurer" expressed his preference for a woman with a "bikini figure." A boy admires a girl's beauty in Echo Heron's 1992 book Mercy.
Orin Hargraves, a linguist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, describes it as a word fad that has periodically been popular and then faded away for a while. According to Hargraves' analysis of data from the Corpus of Historical American English, the term "bikini body" saw a surge in popularity in 1962, 1990, and 1994. Even if some of those cases are attributable to publications like the Huffington Post and Jezebel criticizing its mere existence, it has been increasing since the early 2000s.
It is more difficult to trace the phrase's oral history. Around the time the United States detonated a nuclear bomb above the Bikini Islands in 1946, the bikini as we know it today was created. The etymology of the word is disputed by linguists, but the majority view holds that the creators of the bikini intended to contrast the explosive bomb with the racy new swimsuit.
Regardless of whether the term "bikini body" had been coined by the time Slenderella wrote about it in 1961, it must have been uncommon enough for the advertisers to feel the need to explain it ("high firm bust," "slender legs," etc.). Its meaning is self-evident to English speakers, according to Hargraves, who also argues that the "bikini body" has some appeal despite how repugnant it may be.
Will "vibrating workout tables" or "flesh-firming equipment" someday sound as dated as "bikini body"? It doesn't appear probable. What was once a catchphrase for a shady business has persisted for more than 50 years, entering our lexicon and society. Its influence goes well beyond the shoreline: In the kitchen, the gym, the changing room, and on the beach, we're thinking about skimpy swimwear thanks to bikini-body diets and workouts. Or, to use Jezebel's phrase, "iron-fisted tyranny of the 'bikini body'" controls us nowhere.

Hats At present, hats are definitely in style, and London Fashion Week may likely emphasize this trend. Here are a few of the more well-liked kinds: flat cap (traditionally worn by older people, these are tweed caps with a firm peak, which are very fashionable),.
